SITUATION RHUBARB
A non-venue based visual arts organisation set up by Hannah Marsden and Sheila Gonzalez, Situation Rhubarb creates opportunities for early career artists to show work in insightful and dynamic contexts. Motivated to experiment with the presentation and interpretation of art, Situation Rhubarb produces exhibitions, live performances and installations both within and without the gallery setting. The aim is to support regional artists to locate their work within unfamiliar settings and dialogues, encouraging them to engage with challenging situations.

Sheila Gonzalez
Co-Curator, Situation Rhubarb
Sheila spent most of her life in Cincinnati, Ohio, where she did a Bachelor Degree in Fine Art Studio at the University of Cincinnati with a concentration in media and photography. After finishing her degree she worked as a professional photographer and instructor. In 2008 Sheila moved to Newcastle to gain an MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies from Newcastle University. After graduating Sheila stayed in Newcastle to continue working in the public arts sector and currently works for the Northern Gallery for Contemporary Art in Sunderland and the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead. She has volunteered for Globe Gallery, AV Festival, Star and Shadow Cinema, and has recently worked for Wunderbar Festival as Artist Liaison and Visitor Services.
Hannah Marsden
Co-Curator, Situation Rhubarb
Hannah grew up in Spennymoor, Co. Durham and moved to Newcastle to study Fine Art in 2002. Since graduating she has shown at Saltburn Artists Projects, Gallery Glue, Platform00000008, Allenheads Contemporary Arts, Artland Visual Arts Festival and Durham Art Gallery. In 2009 Hannah curated Exploring Nostalgia at Allenheads Contemporary Arts and has since developed her curatorial practice at 25sg, an artist led domestic space for live art and critical discourse. In 2011 Hannah completed an MA in Art Museum and Gallery Studies. In addition to Co-Curating Situation Rhubarb with Sheila Gonzalez, Hannah is currently working as Administrator for Bridge + Tunnel Productions and GEM Arts.
