Karl de Vroomen’s paintings explore the significance and meaning to be found within the apparently innocuous or trivial. Direct and bold motifs such as fragile or suspended animals, wilted sunflowers and unsettling landscapes articulate reveries of the natural world and yet portray a nature that is always threatening or under threat. It is a habitat where important events seem poised to occur and an atmosphere of disquiet or suspense pervades.
