Preview Friday 11th November 2011, 6.00-9.00pm
Exhibition open 15th November – 17th November 12.00-6.00pm
Ginny Reed enjoys making performances using things bought from stationers, toy and joke shops, found on her desk or in the street; anywhere really, as long as they are cheap and ‘fun’. Due in part to her ambivalence in being seen as ‘The Performer’, the audience’s focus is diverted, either through her use of disguise, slapstick actions or their participation. Often the accumulation or dispersal of volatile materials and situations serve to highlight the dissolution of the ‘event’.
For Action Relay Ginny will be exploring how fantasy and the everyday are intertwined when childhood dreams are viewed through the slow glass of adult ‘reality’. Ginny will be transformed into a real princess and invites you to come as your dream princess too.
Ginny has exhibited and performed regionally, nationally and internationally including; Glasgow International, The National Review of Live Art, BALTIC and Chulalongkorn Art Centre, Bangkok as part of ‘Desaturated,’ a survey of contemporary British interdisciplinary art.
Action Relay is a collaboration between The NewBridge Project and Wunderbar, launching as part of Wunderbar Festival 2011. Throughout the exhibition, NewBridge Space will host week-long residencies for seven artists or artist groups. During their week each artist will develop new work to be performed in a series of one-off evening events.
Following each performance, all the equipment and props used will be left in the gallery for subsequent artists to interact and work with. The show will evolve as an ad-hoc and multidisciplinirary series, engaging artists and viewers with a progression of immediate reactions to events held in previous weeks.
