Jack Cheetham

Artist Statement:

Since 2013 my practice has aimed to explore why people hold importance to specific places and things through the profanation of paraphernalia associated with certain lifestyles and the re-contextualization of particular moments. Offering reflections on issues of social class and personal taste by playing with the relationship between the traditional, everyday and popular culture. These associations unfold through the playfulness of seductive aspects of certain styles, materials, processes, techniques and the morphogenic circle of the worth of things in a society of erratic promotion that creates simultaneous glamorization and self-shaming of our everyday behaviours. Through a kind of ornamentation my questioning is rooted in gender, identity, embarrassment and fantasy in this highly consumerist time. Often the outcomes of my practice are purposefully eclectic and disjointed, mimicking the complex experience and objects of the day-to-day.
