Artist Development

Practice Makes Practice is our continuous artist development programme run by artists for artists. It focuses on developing artistic talent and giving people the necessary skills to manage and develop their practice and career. It is open to all through our NewBridge Associate Membership, or you can attend a one off event. It is open to artists, curators and anybody else interested in the arts.

Newcastle-based artists Alia Gargum and Jakarin Shah have been selected to take part in Co-Act, a new artist development programme at The NewBridge Project for socially-engaged artists, supported by Jerwood Foundation.

Over the next 18 months Alia and Jakarin will be supported to develop their practices, with a focus on food stories, conversation and bringing together local diasporic communities.

The Collective Studio is a year-long, annual development programme for early-career artists and/or recent graduate artists and creative practitioners. Create/Disrupt is a free 11-month artist development programme for (aspiring) artists and arts workers who have not been to university and live in the North East of England.

Create/Disrupt consists of regular workshops with guest artists and creative practitioners; field trips to cultural and creative places; access to events; a free studio space; opportunities to exhibit your artwork and test out new ideas; 1:1 creative mentoring with professional artists; and support to build and be part of a creative community.

Kaleidoscope Network is a collaboration between Eastside Projects (Birmingham), Primary (Nottingham), Spike Island (Bristol), The NewBridge Project (Newcastle) and Bloc Projects (Sheffield).

The Kaleidoscope Network was formed in response to a shared need for mutual support, bringing together partners to share resources, expand what each organisation could offer, and foster new connections between artist communities. It also provided valuable professional development opportunities, allowing partners to learn from one another.
