Bethan Harris (b.2000) is an artist who lives and works in Newcastle upon Tyne. She graduated in 2022, achieving a BA (Hons) in Fine Art from Newcastle University. Since graduating, she has participated in artist residencies in Northumberland and Wales and has taken part in and curated group shows at The Holy Art Gallery, Willesden Gallery in London and Shieldfield Art Works and The Bridge Gallery in Newcastle. She presented her debut solo exhibition at Spread Creative in December 2022. In April 2024, Bethan was awarded the Young Persons Award for the Derwent Art Prize at the Oxo Tower in London.
Bethan’s practice spans both drawing and painting, with a distinctive emphasis on colour as a tool for conveying emotion and atmosphere. Working intuitively, she employs a repetitive mark-making process which repeats a singular motion. Her approach blends observation with abstraction, capturing the ephemeral essence of nature with its movements, textures, and shifting play of light. Bethan’s process draws inspiration from personal memory and local history.
