Camara’s work is articulated within a framework of refusal and is concerned with practices of survival amidst the weather, investigating strategies of withdrawal, recalcitrance and strategic invisibility.
Camara was previously a committee member at Transmission Gallery, Glasgow (2016-2018) and a participant in Constellations, an artist working group programme conceived by UP Projects and Flat Time House. They failed to deliver Fieldwork, Hospitalfield’s International Summer School (2018) and are currently a programme facilitator for the Race, Rights and Sovereignty series (Glasgow School of Art Cultural Engagement & GSA Students’ Association).
Exhibitions include ‘something vague and irrational’ with Sulaïman Majali, Celine Gallery, Glasgow (2019);Flourish, The Gallow Gate, Glasgow (2017) and Shft+Ctrl+Save, a collaboration with artist Isaac Kariuki, Meta Gallery (North Miami Museum of Contemporary Art), US (2015). Selected Group exhibitions include Roadmaps, CCA Intermedia Gallery, Glasgow, supported by Glasgow International (2018); Rum Retort, Tobacco Warehouse, Greenock, (2016) and Visions of the Future: Women, Autonomy and Publishing, Islamic Human Rights Commission, London (2015). Camara’s film and sound works have been screened at venues across the UK and internationally, most recently at Coventry Art Space and the National Art Gallery of the Bahamas.
