Clare Townley

I am a sculptor and artist, based in Newcastle Upon-Tyne, UK. In a nutshell, my practice is purely about facilitating parasites. I do this by utilising: Science fiction aesthetics, ceramics, woven plastics, blending both high art and low- fi everyday materials to create engaging and intricate sculptures and installations, fabricating soothing soundscapes, and lastly feeding the parasites before they turn on, and, devour me.

I draw my inspiration from the hand-built sets and costumes of old monster films, Ernst Haeckel’s various depictions of nature, craft techniques and natural/synthetic overproduction.
