I work in a range of media including video, performance, drawing, photography and participatory projects. My main interest is in the use of absurdity as a tool to investigate (non-absurd) subject-matters in the real world.
My work explores narratives of meaning associated with actions, events and encounters. Conventional scripts enable us to “make sense” of things, by attributing meaning to them and bringing them into the world of discourse. The use of strategic absurdity frees phenomena from their scripts, and constructs alternative worlds where things are allowed to remain meaningless and nonsensical. Here, meaning is not yet determined, and narratives can be constructed anew.
