Lauren Matthews is an illustrator and sequential artist based in Northumberland. Her work primarily explores themes of the occult, folklore, and both psychological & body horror, often confronting people’s expectations of ‘cute’ art by adding a disturbing twist. Additionally, she draws from her spiritual practice as a pagan and how this shapes her perception of folklore and the natural world. Her art often confronts difficult subjects such as death and mental illness, seeking to break down the stigma around these topics.
Much of her art is created digitally via Clip Studio Paint and a Wacom tablet, but she also creates illustrations with markers, watercolours and mixed media.
