I have come to see the act of painting as a constant, evolving, responsive activity. One that reflects and filters my immediate environment. My work is located in the world immediately around me as I work from photographs taken of places and objects of interest. A practice that moves somewhere between abstraction and representation. Recent works have shifted between figuration and abstraction in which gestural marks form the principal focus of each painting. Often using washes as a colour base to build a painting on where pictorial space or omissions are offset with areas of focus.
