Ruby Taylor

Ruby Taylor is a playwright and facilitator based in North Tyneside. In 2024 she graduated from Newcastle University with a degree in English Literature with Creative Writing.

Her work for stage is often about young people, but exploring them from an adult’s perspective. She is particularly interested in exploring how children and young people are often experiencing complex worlds and emotions, but don’t yet have the language to fully express it. Her work has explored themes of mental illness and loss. Ruby often blends elements of fantastical worlds with realism in her plays, going to the strange and magical places our minds often go as children.

Ruby works as a drama facilitator, running workshops for children and young people as well as autistic adults and adults with learning disabilities. She is particularly interested in issue-based drama and devising. Her most recent project involved writing a song with young people with profound and multiple learning disabilities. She also started a knitting group at the Star and Shadow Cinema called “Woolley Mammoth’s.”

Ruby is also using her time with the collective studio to explore a visual arts practise. She has been developing her work as a printmaker for the past couple of years, and would like to blend her passions to write and illustrate a children’s book.
