Ruth has ten years experience of youth and community work and has spent the last 18months as Community Coordinator for Super Slow Way, the creative people and places programme for Pennine Lancashire. This has reignited Ruth’s interest in the social function of the arts and how it is presented and delivered to “non arts” audiences. She obtained her Masters in Fine Art from the University of Plymouth in 2008 where she focused on performance practice and the role of art within academic institutions . Currently, she would describe her work as multi-disciplinary and context specific and is beginning to explore the relationship between art and people and the “usefulness” of art. Increasingly concerned with environmental concerns she aims to produce work which reduces waste and has as little impact on the climate as possible. She is currently working with local residents in Burnley to create a floating garden for the towns annual canal festival.
