‘Homeostasis.Seasonal compositions’ 2014 Sabina Sallis

Our destiny is not frightful by being unreal; it is frightful because it is irreversible and iron-clad. Time is the substance I am made of. Time is a river which carries me along, but I am the river; it is a tiger which destroys me, but I am the tiger; it is a fire which consumes me, but I am the fire.
Essay: “A New Refutation of Time,” Jorge Luis Borges

In my work I enquire into poetic manifestations of life, metamorphosis and visions of reality

and imaginary as true objects of contemplation and possible change. I am interested in imaginary as a dynamic force poetically transcending existence and bringing new questions and new solutions.

My work investigates the complexities of life as a wonder that occurs through the relationships we compose both with and within our natural surroundings. The research I conduct leads me to thinking about how mythology grows from a connection with the land and how mythologies relate and are informed by a modern, popular scientific and philosophical understanding of the world.

Encompassing notions of environmentalism, holistically understood sustainability, tensions between visions and documents; my practice involves experimenting and playful tackling of those universal themes. I frequently use the motif of an island as an open-ended metaphor for a resilient system in equilibrium.

Although my work always begins from drawing, as it is through drawing that the trans-formative power of the imagination brings to forth new ideas, I work within a multi-media context, particularly video, objects and performance.
