Sebastian Trend was born in Helsinki, Finland in 1986 and graduated from Northumbria University, Newcastle, UK in 2008. He was selected as an emerging artist in the 2009 Newcastle Gateshead Art Fair. In 2011 Trend co-founded artist collective SPECTRUM. Trend is a founding member of the Hang Gang, responsible for the exhibition RIFF/T (12 December 2013 – 2 March 2014) at BALTIC 39.
Through a painting process akin to alchemy Trend liquefies and manipulates photographic images, moving a photographs emulsion around like paint. His work concerns states ‘in-between’ solid and liquid, stillness and movement, micro and macro, representation and abstraction, the photograph and the painting.
