“NewBridge Books invites you to a night of cassette tape culture”
Individuals and record labels shared their gems from the compact cassette’s ‘golden age’ and brought along brand new mixes. Experiencing sounds from various corners of the world – from African disco to field recordings of Polish frogs, Burmese pop and new synth sounds from Canada. We dug out our Ghetto blasters and Walkmans and you brought your old cassettes and homemade tapes to add to the mix.
We celebrated cassette art with a collection of Awesome Tapes from Africa best African tape covers, showcasing Ben Jeans Houghton‘s Bollywood tape collection and Lauren Elliot‘s Ethiopian tape collection and a selection from the Yangoon tape stall in Burma.
The night featured live sets from Zassō Fūkei, Pentecostal Party and alright lover.
NewBridge Books also stocked a unique selection of tapes from Awesome Tapes From Africa, Good Food, Opal Tapes, The Philosopher’s Stoned (TPS) and Acid Waxa.
