Cooperatives workshop: How can we be free together?

In this session we will:

• Explore cooperatives as a form of ‘solidarity economy’
• Explore how cooperatives can be used to meet needs in our own community
• Look at examples from around the world and apply this to what’s happening more locally

For anyone curious about cooperatives and how they work

This workshop is run by the Solidarity Economy Association and is part of the For Solidarity programme in collaboration with local community cooperative Dwellbeing Shieldfield.

About the Solidarity Economy Association:

The Solidarity Economy Association is a small, worker-led co-operative based in England, Scotland and Wales, working to overcome capitalism by building up the solidarity economy from below.

About Dwellbeing Shieldfield:

Dwellbeing Shieldfield is a welcoming community group and co-operative based in Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne.  We share life together, support our neighbours and celebrate our community.

We share our knowledge about the issues and challenges that affect our neighbourhood and work collectively to find alternative ways of organising, learning and solidarity. Through these actions we embrace a joyful community spirit that can lead Shieldfield (and other neighbourhoods like it) toward self-reliance, interdependence, and flourishing.

About For Solidarity:

For Solidarity is an ongoing project to share learnings about solidarity economies and to help grow a peer support network of grass roots organisations, projects, initiatives and individuals in the region who are offering alternatives to the extractive mainstream economic system.  Our belief is that we are stronger together.
