NewBridge’s Reading Room has invited artist Craig Pollard to host a session inspired by our collection of books from Pluto Press and Left Book Club.

We’ve asked Craig to use the topics in his own zine: Cringe and Commitment after the end of history as a starting point. He’s then selected books from the Reading Room to expand these ideas and explore and explain how he engages with theory in a relevant, accessible way. The session will be a way of showing how you can use critical ideas as elements of artistic practice without necessarily becoming walking encyclopaedias first, using Craig’s practice as a lens for looking at ideas you can then borrow, adapt and use to inspire new techniques for your own art-making.

The selected books from the Reading Room include:

• Radical Intimacy – Sophie K Rosa
• Change The World Without Taking Power – John Holloway
• Learning Whiteness – Arathi Sriprakash, Sophie Rudolph, Jessica Gerrard

You do not need to have read these books to attend the session, Craig will be using them to illustrate methods and techniques drawn from his practice.

This session will be focused on developing your artistic practice through using resources like the Reading Room. As ever with Kaleidoscope Network events, it’s a fantastic opportunity to be in the same space as practitioners from around the country.
