Join us for BreakOut, a free event designed for young creatives aged 16 to 21 interested in learning more about working in the arts!
Enjoy a day of workshops, talks, conversations, films, food and fun programmed by this year’s Create/Disrupt cohort! You’ll have the opportunity to meet with people working in the arts and others interested in or curious about art making.

Please join us for the entire program of activities — no need to book individual sessions!
10am — 12pm
Join Create/Disrupt member David Hall (Nostalgia Kid) for a photography walk around Shieldfield. This event will serve as an introduction to street photography. You can bring your smartphone, film, or digital camera to take part. Alternatively, you can simply come along and enjoy David’s masterclass, which will explore the themes of architecture, lighting, portraits, and street imagery.
OR
Workshop in our print studio with George Stewart and Create/Disrupt members Poppy McCreary, Nomeda Sabunaite and Paris Jones. You will explore print techniques, such as lino cutting, and create your very own sketchbook.
12pm — 1pm
Lunch (Pizza!)
1pm — 2pm
Create/Disrupt member and filmmaker Midnight Memphis will be discussing their moving image practice in our cinema room followed by a film screening of work they have made.
2pm — 3pm
Create/Disrupt member Helen Walkinshaw will be delivering a workshop and discussion about the music industry, DIY culture and their journey into the North East music scene.
3 — 3.30pm
Break
3.30 — 4pm
Artist and NewBridge Programme Committee member Dan Goodman will give us an insight into his process of curating followed by a tour of his recent programme in our NewBridge gallery space, The NewBridge ‘Open’ Open.
4 — 4.30pm
Artist Mani Kambo, NewBridge Programme Director Frances Stacey and Create/Disrupt Project Manager Izzy Finch discuss diverse pathways into arts jobs and creative industries.
4.30 — 5pm
Izzy Finch will discuss the opportunity for future involvement in Create/Disrupt’s new strand of artist development which begins next year.
5pm
Event ends!
Create/Disrupt member Andy Davy has build an Afghan Box Camera which will be at BreakOut all day. Get your photo taken and hear more about this project and his photography practice!
