FILM SCREENING: Cowspiracy + Locavore – Pigs in the Park
Cinema Politica and The NewBridge Project presented an evening exploring food production and sustainability through two documentaries that provide an insight into food production from the local to large industrial scales.
Locavore – Pigs in the Park (9mins)
Directed by Joseph Mclean, this Glasgow-based documentary explores the experiences and perspectives of individuals involved in local urban food production carried out in local urban spaces.
Director Joseph Mclean will be attending the screening to give a short talk, and will also be facilitating an audience Q&A session.
Cowspiracy (85 mins)
A ground-breaking feature-length environmental documentary following an intrepid filmmaker in documenting the ‘devastating environmental impact large-scale factory farming has on our planet.’
Following this a discussion will be led by Dr Alex Lockwood. Dr Alex Lockwood is an academic and writer based at the Centre for Research in Media and Cultural Studies at the University of Sunderland. He writes about vegan life practices, animal protection and creativity. In 2014 he was a Winston Churchill Fellow which took him to the USA and Canada to work with literacy development agencies and animal protection organisations. He is currently writing a book on veganism, animal agriculture and climate change.
