Art Licks recently released issue 26 of its magazine, in collaboration with The NewBridge Project. Issue 26 hopes to shine a light on the practices of artists, curators and writers based in the North East through the exploration of its theme, Radical Gestures. Contributors include artists Archie Smith and Kitty McKay with their project INCURSIONS, who will run a special edition of their regular walking event to mark the release of the magazine.
INCURSIONS is a project by Archie Smith and Kitty McKay based in Newcastle-upon-Tyne. Part walking event, part radio project, part archive, INCURSIONS hosts weekly walking forums for anyone to attend, building a collective conversation around space and place, memory, friendship and psychogeography in and around the city.
Each weekly walk explores different routes through the city, usually lasting for 2 hours and is followed up by a meal or a drink afterwards. Time periods, architectures and infrastructures, anecdotes and histories are signposted as the walk unfolds but the main aim is to encourage multiple counter-narratives to interweave, building an alternative annunciation of the city of Newcastle in collaboration with attendees.
For this special edition of the INCURSIONS walk, we will meet outside the Laing Gallery, and finish at The NewBridge Project’s Gateshead site for food and drinks. The event will run from 4 pm – 6pm.
