Print In Practice
For the 2014 International Print Biennale, Foundation Press and NewBridge Books presented a collaborative programme that responded to the discourse around print as part of wider artistic practice.
Foundation Press presented selected publications and printed artworks resulting from residencies and projects at their local risograph facility, alongside film, video and photography from the artists who have worked with them, including Deborah Bowers, Alexandra Hughes and Kate Liston.
NewBridge Books also showcased the newest edition of the Reading Room Project, produced in collaboration with Foundation Press. Exploring ideas around print as part of wider artistic practice, and how this is made visible within artists’ books and self-published or independent literature. The Reading Room Project provides a space for browsing, reading and conversation.

Foundation Press is a print facility run by the Foundation Art and Design programme at the University of Sunderland. Based around a Risograph machine, the press aims to support the development of new works with our students and also through collaborations with artists and other one-off projects. Through a series of ongoing residencies, works are developed that help students engage with the fullest range of arts publishing and professional practice.
