Micro Lates

Fri 28th October 2016

We were joined for Micro Lates – an evening of late night activity at The NewBridge Project.

Jimmy Cauty – The Aftermath Dislocation Principle

Visiting Newcastle for the first time as part of the UK Riot tour, Cauty’s The Aftermath Dislocation Principle ( ADP 1 ) is a ‘model village’ of unrest. A 40ft shipping container held a 1:87 scale dystopian cityscape, a vast post-apocalyptic landscape sited somewhere in Bedfordshire – a mythical middle England. More Info

John Harrison – The Empathy Tower

We were joined for a late night opening of the Hidden Civil War exhibition at NewBridge Project Space featuring works by Ruth Ewan, Craig Ames, Richard DeDomenici, Dotmaster, TILT and Neil Goodwin, Russell & Gareth Morris. Throughout October 2016 we invited activists and artists to contribute to a series of events that exposed, collated and presentd evidence of a Hidden Civil War in Britain today. More Info

Audiences were also able to take part and add to John Harrison’s new commission, The Empathy Tower. Created in response to Ken Loach’s latest film I, Daniel Blake, artist John Harrison re-created the Job Seeker experience. Inviting interrogation of increasingly script-led, automated benefits system, participants were invited to ‘sign on’. Take a small block of wood and sign their message to show support for anyone; friends, colleagues, family members who may have been through or are going through the benefits system. More Info

Helen Shaddock & UnstapledPress – A lot can happen in fifteen minutes
Book launch and Readings

Life moves faster than people. There are times when just being can leave a person completely bewildered. Feelings of disorientation, isolation and social anxiety lie at the heart of ‘A lot can happen in fifteen minutes’.

A collaboration between artist Helen Shaddock and the independent publishing house UnstapledPress, the risograph publication features a selection of Shaddock’s humorous texts and sketches alongside playful and colourful patterns and diagrams. Shaddock’s wistfully penned vignettes invite meditation on relationships, personal history, habits and the awkward mundane. Everything has come feet over handlebars. You have lost your balance. More Info
