Nat Raha x The Reading Room: Queer and Trans Care and Collectives

The Reading Room asks artists, researchers and creative practitioners to host workshops and reading sessions inspired by our collection of books from Pluto Press and Left Book Club.

In this event, activist-scholar Nat Raha will discuss her ideas on ‘queer and trans social reproduction’, which proposes that the work that enables queer, trans and non-binary bodies and lives typically occurs in collective and community settings. Drawing from radical LGBTQI+ histories and contemporary practices, we’ll consider the role of solidarity, mutual aid, ‘affective economies’ and collective organising in our lives. We’ll consider the potentialities (and challenges) of collectives to address the current struggles face trans and non-binary people in particular. We’ll consider what it means to focus on what actions we practice together, compared to a focus on rights. The discussion will be a relaxed discussion, around a kitchen table (snacks available).
