NewBridge Books Publication Launch: HELL CATS

Thu 11th April 2019

HELL CATS – Jade Sweeting

6-9pm
BALTIC 39, High Bridge

FREE – ALL WELCOME

Inspired by, and dedicated to every woman who rides a motorcycle, who gets their hands dirty and who wants to be free. “To be free to do what they want to do, to be free to ride their machines, without getting hassled by The Man.” Hell Cats is constructed through found imagery, initially created as an open invitation for people to include their photographs that represent this belief and to be featured in the next issue as on-going project.

Hell Cats is an artist book created with the aim of visually representing strong, confident women who ride motorcycles. Join us within the Ways of Learning exhibition at BALTIC 39 to celebrate the launch of Hell Cats, created by Jade Sweeting.

Jade Sweeting

Following her 2011 Graduate Fellowship at Northumbria University in Print Making, Jade Sweeting has been co-founder and director of Pulled Print Club since 2013. Specialising in Screen Print, Jades key focus is to push the medium, placing a strong emphasis on intuition and skill as on DIY ethics and communal practice. She is particularly interested in archives and recycling found imagery, where process is a main element, alongside analogue techniques, from darkroom photography to printmaking. As well as her own practice, Jade currently works as a Print Making Technician at Newcastle University.

Ways of Learning: BALTIC is curated by Lucy Lopez and Kim McAleese (Grand Union, Birmingham) in partnership with BALTIC.

Ways of Learning is Open: 17 February – 12 May 2019 (Wed – Sun, 12 – 5.30pm)
