Join us at The NewBridge Project for Gateshead Open Studios! We will be hosting exhibitions, workshops and performances across the weekend, and of course there’s a chance to see inside our artists’ studios!
Saturday: 10am – 7pm
A range of our artists will be opening their studios to give you a sneak peek into what amazing things they do all day. Featured artists include Kara Chin, George Stewart, Mark Lyons and Richard Magee. Open studios will run 10am – 5pm both days.
We’ll be exhibiting other member’s artworks in our communal space. Expect paintings, risograph prints, installations and interactive bits.
Throughout Saturday afternoon (1pm – 7pm) there’ll be a series of performances, covering the full spectrum from quieter (spoken word, poetry, scratch performance) through to louder (music, noise) with an emphasis on testing out new ideas. Tim Croft, Greame Hopper, Competition, Will Stockwell, Ciara Lenihan and Ellie Scorah are some of the people you can see and hear perform.
Sunday: 10am – 5pm
The gallery space will be open from (10-5pm) with the opportunity to see the current exhibition For Solidarity.
There will be a free drop-in workshop from (12-3pm) hosted by writer Rob Sharp who will asking participants to get involved in storyboarding, creative writing and drawing around the themes of journeys in relation to solidarity. Rob has recently been based at the Comfrey Project in Gateshead and supported the residents to produce a short documentary which is currently on display in the the gallery space.
Later in the afternoon (3-5pm) local poet and artist Midge Ryall will be talking about the power of storytelling and encouraging people to connect with others through the processes of collaborative writing and art making. Midge also features in the current exhibition For Solidarity and within the workshop there will be time for participants to contribute and interact with a digital body of work, which explores the process of connecting with others through storytelling.
