Join us to walk in solidarity with the Palestinian people and to raise money for families in Gaza trying to survive a genocide.
On tireless wings is part of a longer four-day walk following the outline of Gaza, transposed onto Northumberland, its towns, villages and countryside organised by artist and landscape architect Emily Cropton, writer Tom Jeffreys and curator Tiki Muir.

The route is approximately 64 miles long and takes place over 4 days, 10 October–13 October 2025 in Northumberland. You are invited you to join Tom, Tiki and Emily on Saturday 11 October for day two of their walk.
This marks the third walk organised by Tom, Tiki, and Emily. They organised their first solidarity walk for Gaza in October 2024 in the Scottish Borders and North of England, and a second walk from Edinburgh in April 2025.
“In placing one map on top of the other, the first thing you notice is how tiny Gaza is. 25 miles of coastline; a population of over 2 million people; bombed for nearly two years, with barely a pause for breath, and no possibility to hide or escape.
The aim of this walk is raise money to send directly to families in Gaza to help them survive the ongoing genocide.”

Saturday’s walk starts in Stamfordham and ends in Ponteland, covering approx. 13 miles. There will be transport available to the start (places limited, leaving from The NewBridge Project) and transport to bring walkers back to The NewBridge Project at the end. There will be the option to do half the distance (approx. 7 miles) where at the midway point a mini-bus will bring walkers back to The NewBridge Project.
Along the way we will share texts and poetry to guide our steps. We will also pause to bring to the fore questions of militarised landscapes, borders and conflict, including experiences in the North East, and further afield.

70% of funds raised will go to the Matar family: Suhail, Hanan, Muhammad, Deeb, Ali, Suhaila, Israa, Doaa, Zeina, Sila and Muhammad. Displaced from north Gaza at the beginning of the current genocide, they have repeatedly been forced to relocate over the ensuing months. They are currently based in Gaza City and they need funds to survive. With aid still being blocked, the costs of food, tents, medicine and clothing have increased astronomically.
30% of funds raised will go to The Sameer Project, a donations-based aid initiative, led by Palestinians in the diaspora, working to supply emergency shelter and aid to displaced families across Gaza.
Emily Cropton is an artist, landscape architect and creative producer based between the Scottish Borders and north Northumberland. Emily primarily works in rural contexts and is interested in the relationship between environmental cycles and making processes. Emily is currently artist-in-residence with Connecting Threads and was previously artist-in-residence with The Maltings and Newcastle University. Emily teaches Landscape Architecture at Edinburgh College of Art and is a collaborator on the design studio Within the Folds, situated in Berwick-upon-Tweed. In 2025 Emily became a qualified mountain guide and is in the process of establishing a walking art programme, supporting artists in accessing and learning with remote and mountain environments.
Tom Jeffreys (he/him) is a writer who lives in Edinburgh. He mostly writes about contemporary art and is particularly interested in work that engages with ecological concerns. Tom organises with Fossil Free Books to help build a books industry free from investments in fossil fuels and genocide. He is the editor of Walking: Documents of Contemporary Art. His other books include: To an island in a loch on an island in a loch, with Kirsty Badenoch; The White Birch: a Russian Reflection; and Signal Failure: London to Birmingham, HS2 on Foot. He has written for publications like Art Monthly, ArtReview, Country Walking, e-flux, Frieze, The Guardian and The Independent.
Tiki Muir (she/they) is a creative producer who lives and works in the Scottish Borders. They are currently the curator / project manager for Connecting Threads, a creative project responding to the River Tweed, its habitats, ecologies, communities and culture. Previously, Tiki co-facilitated the Creative Community Hubs Network for Whale Arts, a community-led arts charity and social enterprise in Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. Tiki is interested in participatory working methods, organising with collectives, and community-embedded cultural projects. They love walking, outdoor swimming and mountain biking where they live in the Tweed Valley.

This is a long walk on pavements, roads, and muddy, uneven pathways. There are some busy roads to cross and, possibly stiles and other obstacles to climb over.
Please bring suitable clothes for the weather including shoes/boots, a weatherproof jacket and warm layers.
Bring drinks, snacks and food to last you for the day. We will make stops at shops and villages along the way but these will be limited.
Bring any relevant texts to read on the walk, about Gaza, rivers, ecology, borders, solidarity, or anything else you would like to share.
Palestinian flags and keffiyehs are very welcome.
We have small access bursaries available to support people to take part in the public walks. This is a no questions asked process and we can support requests of up to £50 per person.
This fund can cover costs towards circumstances that might otherwise make it difficult for you to attend. For example: travel costs within Tyneside and the surrounding area to get you to and from the event, child-care costs, percentage toward loss of income for the time period of the event. You don’t need to share any evidence with us, just let us know that you need support to attend the walk. To claim the bursary you will then need to provide an invoice.
