Promises from Paradise is an exhibition of new work by artists Igor Tavares and Rebeca Romero. To celebrate its opening, The NewBridge Project Gallery space will be open through the evening for a chance to preview the work and enjoy a performance from artist Igor Tavares.
Tavares and Romero worked with curator Beatriz Lobo to explore themes of ancestral knowledge, cultural identity, belonging, community building and potential futures. This has resulted in new artworks using textiles, ceramics, sound and performance. Departing from discussions around community healers in the Global South, Beatriz, Igor and Rebeca debated the challenges presented by contemporary Western societies in the search for ultimate wellbeing: can we ever achieve it from where we stand?
