PechaKucha with Videocity

This event is part of Delicate Liminalities / 些細な狭間 which explores how humans relate, co-create and impact the natural environment that surrounds us in the context of the climate emergency.

Drawing inspiration from the PechaKucha format, the event will welcome short presentations by artists around the theme of ’Simply Nature’.

Wolfgang Weileder will speak about his work ’Trees – the time it takes’, which is on display as part of ‘Delicate Liminalities’.“Trees – the time it takes” is an experimental short film filmed in the UK, Germany and Canada. In a completely new way it reveals the dramatic changes of space when a tree is removed from its environment. Weileder uses a new recording and post-production method, developed specially for the project. CTS (continuous time-splitting) technology allows time to be presented so that each tree can be seen simultaneously before, during and after its removal in each frame. The individual frames represent a timespan between five minutes and six hours, adjusted to reflect the felling process of each tree, with the time progressing from of top to bottom.

We aspire to celebrate these creatives and share their inspiring journeys, showcasing how they overcame challenges to become who they are today.

Matthew Rosier will introduce his work ‘Wood Rots Like We Do’ (2023). The film was inspired by the ancient shrines of the Ise Jingu, Japan, entirely rebuilt of wood every 20 years for over a millennia. The outcome of a four-year collaboration between Matthew and Ise; the film tells the stories of 14 participants including priests, politicians, artists, activists, foresters, carpenters and architects. Their stories explore the origins of this ritual and the ancient relationship between Japanese people and forests; exploring how new generations are looking to regenerate Japan’s forests and reimagine their future role in society.
