Bloc Projects hosts GLOAM to invite Kaleidoscope Network Members to join them as they share how they put a project together.
For this online session GLOAM invites Kaleidoscope Network Members to join them as they share how they put a project together; from conceiving the idea, collaborating with artists, devising budgets, planning production + installation timelines and curating accompanying events. GLOAM has organised a range of events, solo and group exhibitions and off-site projects. Throughout the session, GLOAM will discuss internal operations and how they utilise resources and time, turning ideas into realised projects.
GLOAM is an artist-led gallery and studios in Sheffield that aims to deliver rich, accessible, and exciting programmes supporting emerging and mid-career artists. GLOAM allows artists to test ideas and explore new aspects of their practice. GLOAM offers a safe, diverse, and inclusive space for both artists and communities as part of its ethos.
GLOAM is run as a co-operative by three co-directors: Stu Burke, Thomas Griffiths and Victoria Sharples. Stu Burke is an artist, curator and researcher currently studying for a PhD at Leeds Beckett University, researching ‘sites of play within the gallery and beyond’. Thomas Griffiths is an artist and curator, based between Sheffield and Manchester. They are currently studying for an MFA at Manchester School of Art. Victoria Sharples is an artist, curator and researcher. They are a lecturer in the School of Arts at the University of Derby and co-lead of the ‘New Materialist Reading Group’ (NMRG).
The Kaleidoscope Network is a collaboration between Eastside Projects (Birmingham), Primary (Nottingham), Spike Island (Bristol), The NewBridge Project (Newcastle) and Bloc Projects (Sheffield).
Formed in response to a need for mutual support, the network has come together as a way to share resources, increase what each partner is able to offer and create new connections between communities of artists. It also offers professional development for the associated partners learning from one another.
A rolling monthly programme of events gives artists in each of our networks access to a range of activity offered by the different partners, enriching our individual programmes and bringing new perspectives and insights from neighbouring networks. Activity is built around a core curriculum of key skills required for navigating a sustainable career as an artist. The core curriculum currently includes workshops on goal setting, project development, application writing, access support, and tax & self assessment.
If you have a membership with any of the organisations involved, that automatically makes you part of the Kaleidoscope Network. This means you can attend selected events programmed by each partner. These events will be identified as Kaleidoscope activities on our websites and advertised as usual on our newsletters and social media, so keep your eyes peeled for details and booking.
