[Re]fit // Book Launch
Mani Kambo & Lauren Vevers
[Re]fit is a response to appropriation of space & gentrification in Berlin.
What does it mean to be a post-tourist? How do developmental changes affect an established community?
Having spent ten days writing & filming in the districts of Neukölln & Kreuzberg, artist Mani Kambo & writer Lauren Vevers examined the phenomenon of assumed ownership in the urban environment. As outsiders themselves, the artists temporarily occupied these spaces in order to gain a greater understanding – & shed light on – the relationship between (counter) culture & Capitalist consumer-driven restoration.
We were joined at NewBridge Books for the launch of the [Re]fit publication – there was also a short film screening & alternative reading.
This project was kindly supported by The Writing Squad.
