Revolting Composting: A Reflective Gathering

Saturday 28 March 2026 1–4pm NewBridge Gallery

As we near the end of A Revolt in Bernicia’s Garden programme, it’s time to make ‘compost’–process our learnings, notes and photos into a collective zine.

Composting teaches us all parts of life have a cycle of decomposition. Composting is a slow physical, chemical, biological energy transfer from one nutrient form into another, with the help of microbes, bacteria, fungi and a bit of human intervention. Made from all the garden left overs, organic matter, fresh plants, moisture, cuttings, stalks, branches, leaves, and spent coffee.

Borrowing from this alchemical process, we gather our composting ‘ingredients’ – these are our learnings and unlearnings, our workshop notes, our pruning instructions, recommended books, poetry read aloud, walking routes, maps, photos and thoughts that have grown along the way.

Composting is an act of creation.

Through conversation and a collective study of resources gathered, join us to make a collective zine from all our ‘greens’ and ‘browns’ and ask the question “what does our Revolt compost into?”.

This event is open to all; whether you could or could not attend the walks, workshops and events as part of A Revolt in Bernicia’s Garden programme, and anyone interested in zine making, composting or gardening.
