Saturday Social is a friendly, monthly drop-in for people who live in, work in or are visiting Shieldfield. It’s a chance to meet others, have a chat, and enjoy free hot drinks and snacks in a relaxed setting — plus a delicious free lunch from Big River Bakery.
For July’s Saturday Social, we’ll be joined by artist Mani Kambo for a creative session exploring poetic postcards! Using pens, stencils, stamps and other materials, you can transform a postcard into your own unique creation with words, drawings, patterns or messages.
Mani is a multidisciplinary artist primarily working in textile, print and moving image. She explores the inner spirit by drawing on her own personal totemic symbols. Influenced by her upbringing in a Sikh household filled with superstition, prayerand religious ceremony, she focuses on objects, routines and rituals distilled both from the everyday and mythology.
Each Saturday Social has something a little extra going on, from creative activities like printmaking to relaxed time exploring our exhibitions. Try something new, enjoy lunch, and spend time in the gallery in a way that feels open and sociable.
Come along to catch up with friends, meet new people, or simply take some time to relax. All are welcome, including babies and children including, but we ask that they are supervised. You can stay for twenty minutes or the whole session!
Saturday Social began to connect people and create shared social space in our gallery. Saturday Social is about making the space feel warm, friendly, and easy to be in — with good food, creative activities and nice conversation at the heart of it.
Our building has lifts to the gallery, accessible and gender-neutral toilets, baby changing and breastfeeding facilities and two accessible parking bays. You can watch a walkthrough of our building and learn more about accessibility here.
The gallery is wheelchair accessible. There is a variety of seats and benches, including comfy ones with arms and backs. Saturday Social can get quite a noisy space and has natural light.
Someone in the bookshop will meet you and take you to the event space. Please contact admin@thenewbridgeproject.com if you have any questions or need support to participate in this event.
