Join us to make a communally generated algorithmic drawing made using sticky dots. Led by artist Richard Scott, use simple rules to make unpredictable patterns and structures with sticky coloured dots over the course of an afternoon.
Richard is an artist and musician based in Newcastle Upon Tyne. His work explores emergent properties of systematic processes: rule-based iterative systems, interference patterns, cognitive-manual feedback loops, and organic/inorganic growth mechanisms. His recent work has focused on the threshold of pattern perception, looking at quasi- or a-periodic or irregularly repetitive patterns in different ways. He has exhibited his drawings and played music across the UK, France, Switzerland, Germany, Sweden and Slovenia.
Saturday Social is an exciting drop-in workshop suitable for all ages. Enjoy a delicious free lunch from Big River Bakery. Come hang out in our gallery, where you can catch up on our current exhibition, grab a cuppa, and chat! Adults and families who want to enjoy lunch, try something creative or chat with other people from Shieldfield are welcome.
Saturday Social started as a way to get to know more people from our community and use our gallery as a social space. We understand galleries can be intimidating spaces, so the idea of Saturday Social is that (with a bit more going on, like pies and printmaking) the gallery will seem less intimidating.
Unfortunately, Saturday Social is not for members of our youth programme to attend unsupervised.

Our building has lifts to the gallery, accessible and gender-neutral toilets, baby changing and breastfeeding facilities and two accessible parking bays. You can watch a walkthrough of our building and learn more about accessibility here. Coffee morning can be quite a noisy space and has natural light. Someone in the bookshop will meet you and take you to the event space.
