Saturday Social: Recycled Costume Making with Lady Kitt

You don’t need to bring anything with you, but if you have some old clothes / household rubbish to donate or use yourself on the day, we always welcome:

• Old t shirts, trousers, skirts, dresses, hats and footwear to decorate and adapt
• Plastic bags and wrappers: to maximize the recycling benefits, use shopping bags that have holes in them/ handles missing etc and not bags that can still be used for carrying stuff. You can also use crisp packets / coffee bags (make sure you clean and dry them thoroughly first!)- the metallic side of the wrappers create a lovely glittery effect. Plastic packaging for fruit and veg, dried pasta, rice, frozen veg are all also good as long as they are well washed and dried!

The making and recycling techniques we will be using in the workshop have been developed through a project called Drag Declares Emergency. In this project we focus on drag costumes and props made from recycled, reused and natural materials. We have been inspired by Chimeras: Mythical creatures with parts taken from different animals, like merfolk and Penghou (a tree spirit from Chinese folklore with the face of a human and the body of a dog)! This workshop is suitable for all ages, and no prior experience is needed – just drop in!
