Shieldfield Home: Opening Preview

Join us for the preview of Shieldfield Home, our exciting winter exhibition showcasing art made by those who work and live in Shieldfield!

The NewBridge Project Gallery space

Shieldfield Home is an exhibition celebrating art made in Shieldfield by local artists, makers and NewBridge‘s own artist community! All kinds of art, craft and creativity will be exhibited – from drawings and paintings to photography, films and books to craft, design & digital art, floral, textiles, fashion, music & sound.

Join us for a special opening preview in The NewBridge Project Gallery. Artworks will be displayed in their custom-designed showroom in our gallery. Some of the art will be for sale too. This preview evening is part of Shieldfield Home’s opening weekend, with free activities for all ages to get involved in.

There will be a bar operating a Challenge 25 policy. All children must be accompanied by an adult and are not permitted on site after 7pm.

The exhibition runs in two parts, with the first segment running from Saturday 3 December –  Saturday 21 January followed by Part two, with new works added from Saturday 28 January – Saturday 25 February. A full programme of events for anyone to get involved in will be launching alongside the exhibition.

We made Shieldfield our home back in October 2021 and we have been warmly welcomed to the area and look forward to meeting more of Shieldfield’s makers and artists.

Shieldfield Home starts off The NewBridge Project’s theme ‘The Home’. They will be producing a long term programme of exhibitions, events, talks and workshops which explore ‘The Home’, what it means in their community and space in Shieldfield.

Join us on Saturday 3 December, form 12pm - 7pm, join us for a day of free activity to celebrate the opening of Shieldfield Home, our exciting winter exhibition showcasing art made by those who work and live in Shieldfield!

We will be celebrating the opening of Shieldfield Home and the public launch of our Dark Room, a space for photography development and future sight of creative community activity. Get stuck in with ongoing growing project, The NewBridge Dye Garden and jump onto some tours of our building and exhibition to learn more about what we do.

Finally finish the day with a special ‘in conversation’ event between artists and Dark Room co-founders Janina Sabaliauskaite and Phyllis Christopher and some special guests from The Shieldfield Youth Programme, and enjoy a free meal provided by local community caterers

Join Create/Disrupt for an experimental pop-up show of individual and collaborative work, coinciding with the opening of NewBridge’s winter exhibition, Shieldfield Home, from Friday 2 - Saturday 3 December!

The show is based around the idea of approaching art making as a form of play. How does the creative process unfold if you reimagine the rules of the game every time, let go of control and forget about the intended outcomes? How does being immersed in play enable collaboration? We’re not sure, but we will have fun finding out.

Create/Disrupt is a new programme for artists, aspiring arts workers, makers and producers who have not had formal training or undertaken a degree and are interested in pursuing a career in the arts.
