Sally Madge invited us to join her in a collaborative art-making session, with no agenda other than to explore the potential of creating a table top alternative to Jimmy Cauty’s travelling dystopia Aftermath Dislocation Principle (ADP). This playful event offered a platform for serious issues to be raised concerning the processes involved in dreaming up and making concrete a new reality, where working with clay operated as a discursive as well as aesthetic medium. Conflict occurred and consensus may have been elusive, but it was up to those who took part to make or break rules, test out different strategies and explore modes of communication in the effort to produce an artefact which combined and encapsulated the visions, energies, and interactions of its makers.

Hidden Civil War was a month long programme of events and exhibitions across Newcastle upon Tyne that exposed, collated and presented evidence of a Hidden Civil War in Britain today. Hidden Civil War, a collaborative project, commissioned by The NewBridge Project and developed in partnership with East St Arts, Hands on Film Lab, Metal, Paper Rhino, Mark Donne, Taryn Edmonds, Chris Erskine, Julia Heslop, Beth Ramsay, Julie Tomlin, Vicky Ward and Aisha Zia. Hidden Civil War was delivered with the support of partner venues; Cobalt Studios, Tyne Theatre, Summerhill Bowling Club and The Cumberland Arms. Accompanying publication, The Precariat is produced by Paper Rhino.
