If you opt to attend remotely, a member of staff will contact you on the day of the workshop with a Zoom link and more info about the session and a digital code of conduct. If attending in person, arrive by 10:45am for a prompt 11am start.
This is an interactive session. We encourage you to ask questions, share your thoughts, and dive into the activities and discussions. If you prefer to listen instead, that’s perfectly fine too—everyone has their own style when it comes to networking. We’re excited for you to join us and discover how to navigate the network effectively. You never know who you might meet along the way!

Will Hughes (they/them) is a multi-disciplinary artist based in Teesside. Will is also a curator and highly skilled project manager who currently works for The Auxiliary Project Space. They have been awarded grants from DYCP Arts Council England and North East Artists Fund in 2023, as well as AN Time, Space, Money in 2021 and the Graduate Freelance Award in 2018.
Hughes’ work is conceptually driven by their lived experiences as a queer, non-binary person in the UK, mixing pop culture references with material language to construct moments. They wish to seduce the viewer through often using repetitive mechanical movement, glossy/shiny surfaces and the lens of glamour as a means of storytelling. Concepts of aspiration, queerness and glamour are central themes within Will’s work. Using lyrics as titles to reference pop culture, they obscure contexts, social and material histories to weave narratives which simmer below a veil of glossy, shiny surface.
UpSkill is an exciting programme of workshops focused on how to thrive as an artist; from writing to self-employment, network building to promoting yourself online and curating to designing your own workshop!
