Shieldfield Youth Programme Updates

Announcing Shieldfield Sounds, a new strand of the Shieldfield Youth Programme!

Posted: 18 February 2026

Using music to explore anti-racism and how young people can empower and uplift one another, our 12-18 year old youth programme members have joined together to tackle racism, explore their cultural heritage, and make some noise!

Our members have been supported to upskill in areas of music they’ve not yet explored, including production, mixing, songwriting and DJing. As this project expands, we will explore music that links to their family’s heritage – including Sudanese, Libyan and Ethiopian genres. By the end of Shieldfield Sounds, the group will have created a new Anti-Racism EP for the wider Shieldfield Youth Programme, based on facilitated training sessions delivered by professionals, including Show Racism The Red Card.

The young people are at the centre of all decisions we will make within Shieldfield Sounds. Shieldfield Youth Programme was created in partnership with Dwellbeing Shieldfield, directly responding to the need for youth provision in Shieldfield, and has been shaped with their voices throughout its delivery.

A huge thank you to Youth Music for supporting the young people of Shieldfield. We’re so excited to see what the young people create next – make sure you’re listening up to find out!
