On Wednesday, October 23rd, Helen Shaddock, artist and NewBridge studio holder talked with Anna Foster from BBC Radio Newcastle about artED.
artED (art and eating distress) is a digital zine that has evolved from Shaddock’s Lockdown Diaries, a series she began at the start of the pandemic.
With text winding up, down, and along the edges, each page is filled to the brim, completed in one take at the end of each day, crossings-out included. During lockdown, sharing these diaries on social media became a daily ritual, keeping Shaddock connected to family and friends. As her following grew, the diaries became a platform for her to share her experiences with eating distress, OCD, and her recent autism diagnosis, with increasing openness, humour, and vulnerability.
