Create/Disrupt Call Out!

Posted: 11 October 2022

Create/Disrupt is a free 12-month Development Programme for aspiring artists and arts workers who have not completed an under-graduate degree and are based in the North East of England, and they are looking for new members!

  • Do you dream of a career as an artist or arts worker but feel you haven’t had the opportunity or contacts to make it work?
  • Would you like to be part of an arts community and network with support to develop as an artist?

Create/Disrupt is a development programme for aspiring arts workers and artists who are based in the North East and have not been to University.

You may not yet have a creative practice or consider yourself an artist but are interested in exploring the possibilities of what a career in the arts could look like. The programme of activity will run January 2023 – January 2024.

We are establishing a community that will open access to whatever you tell us you need. Whether that is artist mentoring, networking opportunities, developing facilitation skills, access to creative skills workshops, working towards an exhibition or something entirely different.

Create/Disrupt is a co-created programme of activity that provides communal free studio and workspace, a programme of training, events, mentoring, socials and opportunities to exhibit work tailored to each cohort and open to a very diverse range of practices.

We want to hear from people who may not have thought a career as an artist or arts worker was possible. We are interested in exploring and supporting diverse artforms and we are excited to hear from painters, photographers, collage makers, sculptors, crafters, designers, illustrators, performance artists and everything in between.

Each year, the programme of activity is created by structured around participants hopes and needs so each cohort’s experiences are different. Here’s some highlights of 2021 – 2022:

  • Events & workshops
  • Invited local and national workshop leaders
  • Social trips and events
  • Access to production and project spaces (including wood workshop, darkroom, print studio, ceramic studio)
  • Works-in-progress exhibitions & performances
  • Field trips
  • Mentoring
  • Studio & workspace
  • Budget allocated for the cohort to collectively use, providing the opportunity to exhibit work and/or programme events.
  • Peer-led activity

To apply, please send one side of A4 (alternatively you may email a video recording of yourself) outlining:

  • Your current creative/artistic interests (include examples of your work if you would like to!);
  • Where you feel your artistic or creative journey is currently at (it doesn’t matter where you feel you are and this won’t effect your application, you could tell us something new you want to explore);
  • What your creative hopes and aspirations are for the next 12 months and what you hope to gain from being a member of Create/Disrupt;
  • A completed Equal Opportunities and Diversity Monitoring form (download below).

The deadline for applications is 14th December 2022

The programme of activity will begin 17th January 2023
