The conference aims to highlight that care – through solidarity and justice – is central to degrowth as a collective project promoting sustainable, decolonial, feminist and post capitalist ways of flourishing.
Online events will run daily between 8am and 8pm UK time and will include lots of exciting sessions, workshops, film screenings and many more happenings.
During the three-day online conference there will also be three online plenaries that all conference attendees can join. They will be on the following topics:
- Green New Deals & Degrowth
- Agrarian & Urban Dialogues on Degrowth
- Embodying Degrowth for a Healing Transformation
What is degrowth?
Degrowth is an idea that critiques the global capitalist system which pursues growth at all costs, causing human exploitation and environmental destruction. The degrowth movement of activists and researchers advocates for societies that prioritise social and ecological well-being instead of corporate profits, over-production and excess consumption. This requires radical redistribution, reduction in the material size of the global economy, and a shift in common values towards care, solidarity and autonomy. Degrowth means transforming societies to ensure environmental justice and a good life for all within planetary boundaries.
The online conference will use a custom-designed, open source, non-proprietary platform where participants will be able to meet, interact, discuss, collaborate, as well as follow the program and the latest updates.
Further details will be sent out to the selected applicants.
