Newcastle-based artist Rosie Morris explores artist and choreographer Lizzie Klotz and designer Bethany Wells’ installation, Abundance.
“Me Lost Me’s soft, fizzy drone ‘sludge’ melts into my head. Am I feeling abundant? I rotate my neck and hear the tension crack, rocking it there for a while. Briefly closing my eyes, I breathe and feel my weight ground itself into the soft matting, then rearrange my chosen sherbet-yellow duvet to support my tail bone and the small of my back. I secretly long to pile it up on top of me like a childhood den, filtering glowing light. I notice a message printed along one quilt’s base beside me: ‘unfurl’. These small acts feel caring and considered. I relax into this embrace.”

Rosie Morris is a visual artist based in Newcastle upon Tyne, UK. She creates large scale installations, painting, film, photography and print. Her background is making site responsive paintings you walk into and around, activating the viewers encounter and awareness of space in relation to the outside world.
Abundance is an installation created by artist and choreographer Lizzie Klotz and designer Bethany Wells in conversation with community neighbours in Shieldfield. You are invited to walk, lie down, rest and be held in the space, connecting to the feeling of abundance – however that might be accessed in your body – through moments of stillness, play and reflection.
The installation is part of a wider interdisciplinary project devised by Lizzie with a host of collaborators, including design by Bethany and music by Jayne Dent (Me Lost Me). At the core of Abundance is a live performance, touring to theatres across the UK, with an intergenerational cast of professional and non-professional dancers. At NewBridge the spatial playground initially created for the dancers becomes an immersive environment for you to inhabit.
