Join us for a tasting-menu meal with Ugly Duckling. Each delicious course will explore different methods of sustainable food practice, inviting us to experience and consider alternative methods of consumption. From edible plates, foraged sorbets and flowering cocktails, it will be an evolving and exciting evening which will make you think differently about food culture and what we eat.
Ugly Duckling
The not-for-profit Ugly Duckling uses positive approaches to challenge our food system and raise awareness on food waste.
Through the art of rescuing, reusing and growing ingredients they want to encourage an affordable and sustainable food culture in Newcastle Upon Tyne. The Ugly Duckling strives to save, forage, grow and source local fresh produce that not only is respectful of the planet but nourishes our bodies and makes us smile.
They change perfectly imperfect produce into beautiful things which include cold-press juice from wonky veg, preserves made from overripe fruit, beer made from stale bread and a catering service/pop up stall using only donated or ethically sourced ingredients.
Ugly Duckling will also be at The Late Shows, leading a hands-on kimchi making work shop in our gallery space in Gateshead.
This event is part of Deep Adaptation. An ongoing programme of commissions, talks, events and workshops looking at how current social, civic and economic issues can be understood in relation to climate change.
