Red + Green = Yellow – Artist Talk and Exhibition Video Launch

Tue 8th December 2020 Online

Red + Green = Yellow is an experimental exhibition which explores visual communication through imagination, abstraction and making. The exhibition was due to open in November, however in light of the recent developments and Government guidelines this exhibition is temporarily closed. We would love for you to join us for a virtual introduction to the show, along with a short discussion between artists whose works feature in the exhibition. Red + Green = Yellow

Through an open call, artists Abi Freckleton, Catriona Beckett, David & Melissa Eveleigh-Evans, James Ellis and Theresa Poulton were selected to make a new work as a visual response to another work. At the start of the process each artist was provided with a photograph (without any further information) of an artwork by another artist, using their immediate visual reaction as inspiration they have been commissioned to create a new artwork in response to that image.

The exhibition is currently presented at The NewBridge Project : Gateshead and features both the original artworks, along with the newly commissioned works.

Red + Green = Yellow considers both the neural and artistic processes that takes place when developing a commissioned work, and through this process we are particularly interested in the immediate reactions and the responses to the photographs. Processes like these will be explored through a series of workshops and events which will take place throughout the duration of the exhibition. Within these events we are keen to include a wide range of voices from both artists and scientists who explore both vision and perception within their fields of practice, as well as the common and diverse approaches made when responding to new information or visual cues.

Overmorrow

Launched through the months of November 2020 – May 2021 the festival will include a series of commissions, talks, screenings and events which explore our collective futures with audiences, members and communities.

Throughout this programme The NewBridge Project would like to foster practical conversation that acknowledges discomfort, embodies varied agendas and recognises privilege, breaks down silos and, ultimately, creates a space for a new kind of growth. Through collective dialogues, together we can proactively and collectively shape the future we want. Please follow the Overmorrow programme for further information about up-coming opportunities. Overmorrow has been developed and produced by The NewBridge Project: Programme Committee.
