At the heart of Eleanor’s practice lies the problem of originality and the status of the copy. Navigating our image-saturated culture of excess through printmaking, casting, and writing, she challenges the ‘problem’ of a copy-as-a-work-of-art, proves the creative potential of multiplicity, and proposes the inadequacy of the dominant discourse of originality. The experience of working as an archiver has brought her to reflect on her role as a maker-caretaker. She considers points of interest like emotional labour and the role of the archivist-art-handler; the Internet as an infinite archive; cataloguing the immaterial; and the status of the image as sign.
