Richard Martin

I’m interested in the transformative element- changing how we understand space, objects, images- through reimagining the use of them, questioning why those things- our physical contexts- exist as they do, and what dictates our use and understanding of them. I explore these themes through a variety of forms, whether it be site-specific interventions, text based distributive works, collage, installations and print works.

Richard Martin (b. Glasgow 1987) studied Environmental Art at Glasgow School of Art between 2006 and 2010. Since graduating he has worked throughout the UK, in solo and group events, participating in RSA New Contemporaries 2011 for which he was awarded the Sierra Metro prize. More recently he has spent time in Sweden, as a participant of Tomma Rum, an artist residency programme and in Rotterdam in a new collaborative working with Sighle Bhreathnach-Cashell.
