Dermis is an independent press based in Glasgow and this is our first issue focused on the theme of ‘Place’. What motivates us is our community and its people, stories that reflect another way of living often obscured in publishing but nonetheless vital in understanding our makeup.
The idea of place functions as a stepping stone for the exploration of our complexities as inhabitants of a collective, yet intricately singular, point of existence. Our places are distinct manifestations of our historiographies and intersecting identities which inform our movements, whether physical or mental. This issue follows the choreography of these movements from differing perspectives and backgrounds to outline a sense of place which is familiar in its depiction but very distinct. Place can be found in the land, in transcendence, or in nostalgia; it can bind us to time or catapult us to the unknown.
So let us navigate this uncertainty and discover solace in the details of the spaces that move us and move within us.
