Photochemical film is a vibrant and exciting medium with unique opportunities for artist cinema. At Hands On Film they create a space of engagement via hand-processing and small-scale production facilities which offer a personal and reflexive approach to celluloid. Their ethos is rooted in skill-sharing and peer led education.
In addition to regular workshops they have hand-processing facilities in a fully equipped darkroom, Bolex and Krasnogorsk 16mm Cameras and lenses, winding arms, a rostrum animation stand with lighting and a Steenbeck flat-bed editing table for 16mm film. Light boxes and a scanner for negative selection are also on site. These are available either to hire or book time on by arrangement. Rate based induction to specialist equipment and technical assistance is available by arrangement.
Yearly membership is offered at £60, with a £50 concessionary rate for Newbridge Project members. This includes a compulsory half day induction to the facilities, covering access, health and safety and an induction to basic level equipment. Membership allows scheduled access to equipment and facilities, film and chemistry can also be purchased through the lab. Members receive a 15% discount on all workshops.
